American Truck Simulator to symulator jazdy ciężarówką stworzony przez czeskie studio SCS Software, posiadające spore doświadczenie w tej tematyce – firma odpowiedzialna jest bowiem za pokrewną serię 18 Wheels of Steel, jak również za obie części Euro Truck Simulator. Gra pozwala na zajęcie miejsca w kabinie kierowcy potężnych osiemnastokołowców i przemierzanie terytoriów Ameryki Północnej, dbając jednocześnie o to, by dostarczyć na czas przewożone towary. Twórcy postarali się o wierne odzwierciedlenie mapy drogowej, dzięki czemu poruszamy się po systemie autostrad międzystanowych i drogach ekspresowych. W premierowej wersji gry dostępne były dwa stany: Kalifornia oraz Nevada. Kolejne są dodawane sukcesywnie jako zawartość DLC.
