Inspirowana serią FlatOut zręcznościowa gra wyścigowa z rozbudowanym systemem zniszczeń pojazdów. W Trail Out obok dość klasycznych wyścigów otrzymujemy dostęp do trybu fabularnego, rywalizacji typu demolition derby czy minigier polegających na katapultowaniu kierowcy.

Rywalizacja odbywa się w ośmiu dyscyplinach. Są wśród nich klasyczne wyścigi, demolition derby (rozwałka na arenach), starcia z bossami, których pokonanie umożliwia pięcie się w festiwalowym rankingu, Cross (wyścigi na krzyżujących się trasach) czy Escape (ostatni uczestnik odpada po każdym okrążeniu). Zmagania mają miejsce na kilkudziesięciu trasach i arenach, często wyposażonych w elementy otoczenia podatne na zniszczenie.
